On Letter and A4, a name goes in its box only if it fits at 18 point; otherwise the box shows an asterisk (*) and the name is printed under the grid. Federal holidays are checked against the list of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM); the other dates follow the usual rules for the day.
October is the month to look ahead. Flu-shot appointments, the fall clock change, and the run-up to Thanksgiving and Christmas all land in the next ten weeks, and it is easier to book them while the boxes are still empty. Write the date you want a flu shot in the first week, and put a doctor's visit in early rather than late.
Columbus Day is the federal holiday on Monday 12 October. Federal offices are closed, and many banks and post offices are too, so do not plan a trip to the bank or a package pickup that day. Halloween falls on a Saturday this year. If children come to the door, write the time you will start handing out sweets, and put a note to buy them in the week before.
What should I write on the October 2026 calendar?
If someone in the house takes medicines by a refill schedule, count 30 days from the last pick-up and write that date in a dark marker, with the word "refill" and nothing more. Short words read faster than sentences. Write the coming month's clock change on the last Sunday of October as a reminder that it is on 1 November, so it is not a surprise on the day.
