How do you fill in a large print Yahtzee score sheet?

Each player has a column, with their name written at the top. After every turn, the player looks at their five dice, chooses one line that fits, and writes the score in that line. A line can be used once only. After thirteen turns every line is full and the game ends.

Write large and in pencil. The rows are at least 12 millimeters high, roughly half an inch, so there is room for a wide pen or a soft pencil. If a player cannot see the boxes well, one person at the table can act as scorer and write for everyone, reading each score aloud as they go. A cream background is available if white paper glares.

When the game ends, add the upper section first, work out whether the bonus applies, then add the lower section and finish with the grand total. The first page carries a short reminder of the standard scores, so nobody has to dig out the rule sheet from the box.

The page is set to the guidelines of the American Printing House for the Blind (APH): body text at 18 point or larger, plain type, 1.25 line spacing, and lines in solid black, because APH says gray should never be used for people with low vision. If you want to know why, see what is large print.

What does each line on the score sheet score?

The upper section is Aces through Sixes, where you add up only the dice showing that number. The lower section rewards patterns. The table shows the standard scores that the sheet reminds you of, so you can check it against your own game.

The 63 needed for the bonus is what you get from three of each number, so a player can miss on one line and still make it on another. House rules vary. Some families count a second Yahtzee as a wild card for any line, and some play with a joker rule. Write your own rule at the top of the sheet if it differs from the standard one.

How many players can use one sheet?

One to six. The columns get narrower as players are added, but each row stays tall and the numbers stay big. For a large group, two or three tables of four players score more comfortably than one long sheet with six. If you are printing for a group with low vision, keep to four players a sheet and choose 24 or 28 point.

Print on 11 x 17 inch paper for a sheet that can be passed around a card table and read across it. Use A4 outside North America.

Score sheets pair well with the rest of an activity afternoon.
