How do I use a large print bill log?

When a bill arrives, write its name, the due date and the amount on the next free row. When you pay it, write the date paid and the confirmation number or check number. That last column is what proves a payment was made, so write it every time.

Write the month on the line at the top and start a new page each month, and clip the old pages together in a folder. A quick look down the "paid date" column shows which bills are still open. Use a dark, wide pen and write in capitals for the amounts.

The page follows the type guidelines of the American Printing House for the Blind: 18 point or larger, plain type and solid black rules. You can read why in what is large print.

Which bills should I write down?

Write down anything with a due date. A typical list:

Bill How often
Rent or mortgage Monthly
Electricity, gas, water Monthly or quarterly
Phone and internet Monthly
Insurance Monthly or yearly
Credit card Monthly
Annual subscriptions Yearly

Copy each due date onto a wall calendar as well. The large print calendar 2027 has room in every square for a note such as "electric due". Bills paid by check go in the large print check register, and the log records the confirmation.

How do I keep the log safe?

Keep the log in a folder with your paid statements, in a place you can find. Do not write full account numbers or passwords on it. The last four digits are enough. If a family member helps you with money, print a second copy so you can both see what has been paid.

Everything for money is grouped on the large print money forms page. Every page you download may be copied freely for personal, family, church, library and activity-room use.
