Which Bible verses are on this page?

The sheet holds about twenty verses that many people turn to in hard times. They come from the Psalms, Proverbs, Isaiah and Jeremiah, from the Gospels of Matthew and John, and from letters of Paul and Peter, and each is on a line of its own so that a reader can find one without searching. The references let you look each verse up in your own Bible.

The verses were chosen for comfort and reassurance, not for any one occasion, so the sheet suits a bedside, a hospital room, a sympathy card or a quiet moment in a care home. It is a short selection. Why is the King James Version used here?

The King James Version was commissioned in 1604 and published in 1611, according to Wikipedia, and it is in the public domain in most of the world. That makes it free to print in the United States. Many modern translations are still under copyright, so we cannot offer them here. In the United Kingdom, Wikipedia adds, the right to print the text is a royal prerogative under letters patent, so readers there should use an authorized printer.

The King James wording is also the one many older readers know by heart. If your group reads from another translation, check the sheet against the one you use, because the wording of the same verse often differs.

How do you use large print Bible verses at the bedside or in a care home?

Pick one verse, read it aloud, and leave it in sight. A single verse on a cream sheet at 28 point can sit on a bedside table or be propped against a lamp, and a reader with limited sight can return to it during the day. In a care home, a volunteer might read one verse at the start of an activity and leave a copy for anyone who would like it.

Some people prefer to write rather than read. Copying a favorite verse onto large print lined paper is a quiet activity that keeps the hands busy, and the finished page makes a card. How do you print Bible verses in large print?

Choose a type size and a paper size, then press the download button. Use 24 point for a sheet that people hold and 28 point for a reader with more advanced sight loss. Eighteen point is the smallest size we offer, because the American Printing House for the Blind (APH) says print below 18 point is not large print, and our page on what large print is explains the reasons for each size.

Print single-sided on matte paper, and choose cream if white paper glares. To make separate verse cards, print a page and cut it along the blank lines, one verse to a card. If you need 11 x 17 paper, ask at a library or a print shop.
