The Nicene Creed
I believe in one God the Father Almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth,
and of all things visible and invisible:
And in one Lord Jesus Christ,
the only begotten Son of God,
Begotten of his Father before all worlds,
God of God, Light of Light,
Very God of very God,
Begotten not made,
Being of one substance with the Father,
By whom all things were made:
Who for us men, and for our Salvation
came down from heaven,
And was incarnate by the Holy Ghost
of the Virgin Mary,
And was made man,
And was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate.
He suffered and was buried,
And the third day he rose again
according to the Scriptures,
And ascended into heaven,
And sitteth on the right hand of the Father.
And he shall come again with glory
to judge both the quick and the dead:
Whose kingdom shall have no end.
And I believe in the Holy Ghost,
The Lord and giver of life,
who proceedeth from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son together
is worshipped and glorified,
who spake by the prophets.
And I believe one Catholic and Apostolic Church.
I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins,
And I look for the Resurrection of the dead,
And the life of the world to come.
Amen.
Words: Church of England Book of Common Prayer (1662), reproduced by Eyre & Spottiswoode in 1892; spelling modernised, historical wording retained. Public domain in the United States: historical text reproduced in 1892 (public domain in the United States; publication restrictions may apply in the United Kingdom).
The whole creed appears below, including the final statements about baptism, resurrection and the life to come. Its source is the Communion text in the 1892 Book of Common Prayer printing.
For the shorter creed, use the separate Apostles’ Creed printable. Both belong to the large print prayers and hymns collection.
Which version of the Nicene Creed is this?
This historical Anglican wording begins with “I believe” and retains “Very God of very God,” “Holy Ghost” and “the Father and the Son.” Spellings such as Iesus, vs and quicke have been changed to Jesus, us and quick. The words and the order of the statements remain those of the source.
Check the wording against your order of service before printing copies for a group. A modern church text may differ. The source is in the public domain in the United States; the source edition’s notice describes restrictions that can apply in the United Kingdom.
The Rosary prayer sheet includes its own traditional Catholic form of the Apostles’ Creed. The Ten Commandments sheet is the full Exodus 20 passage in the KJV, with biblical verse numbers.
How do I print the Nicene Creed PDF?
Set the paper size, type size and font above the preview. Download the PDF, open it and print at Actual size or 100% on matching paper. Larger type can require more pages, so check the final Amen before making extra copies.
The separate Lord’s Prayer uses the KJV wording from Matthew 6. It includes the traditional KJV ending, which is labelled on that page.
