How do I make a large print phone book?
Print the pages, write in a name and number on each row, and staple the sheets together or slide them into a binder. Letters run in order, so you turn to the first letter of the name and look down the page. The sheet has a shaded heading for A to W and one shared heading for X, Y and Z, with three rows under each heading unless you choose two or four. That makes about 70 names in a book of 6 to 12 pages on Letter or A4, or 4 to 6 pages on 11 x 17, depending on the type size.
Write in dark ink with a thick felt-tip pen, and keep the numbers big. Group them the way you say them aloud, with a space after the area code. If you get stuck reading a number, ask a friend to add it in your own handwriting beside the printed one.
The page follows the American Printing House for the Blind guidelines: plain type at 18 point or larger, solid black lines and no gray. The reasons are in what is large print.
Which numbers belong on the first page?
Keep a short front page for the numbers you need fastest. A common set:

Add your local emergency number, such as 911 in the United States, at the very top. Leave the first page as your quick list and use the letter pages for everyone else.
How can I keep a phone book up to date?
Print new pages when a number changes and slip them in. Cross a name out with one bold line, and write the new number beside it. Once a year, sit down with a family member and go through it. A helper can check each number by phone.
