How do you score Rummikub?
A game ends when one player plays the last tile from their rack and calls "Rummikub!" The official rules then have every other player add up the numbers on the tiles still on their rack. Each tile counts its face value, from 1 to 13. That total goes on the sheet as a minus score.
The winner of the game gets a plus score equal to all of those minus scores put together. So in every row the plus number and the minus numbers cancel out, and the row adds up to 0. The rules point this out as a quick way to catch a mistake.
| Example game | Tiles left on rack | Score to write |
|---|---|---|
| Ann goes out | none | +49 |
| Ben | 5, 7 | -12 |
| Carol | 3, 4 and a joker | -37 |
Sometimes the pool runs out and nobody can play. In that case the official rules make the player with the lowest total on their rack the winner, and the others score the difference between their own rack and that player's as a minus.
How much is a joker worth at the end of a Rummikub game?
A joker left on your rack when someone goes out is a 30-point penalty. During play a joker takes the value of the tile it stands in for, which matters for the opening meld of 30 points, but at the end of a game it always counts 30 against you.
Who wins a game of Rummikub?
The official rules group games into rounds: two players play two games to a round, three play three, and four play four. Players can agree how many rounds to play. When the last round ends, the player who has won the most games is the winner, and the player with the highest total breaks a tie.
That is why the Total row is not the whole story. Circle each game's winning score as you write it, then count the circles at the end.
How do you use the large print Rummikub score sheet?
Write each player's name at the top of a column and the date at the top of the sheet. After each game, the player who went out reads the other racks aloud while the scorer writes the minus scores, then adds them for the winner's plus score. Check that the row adds up to 0 before anyone starts the next game.
A standard set has 106 tiles and racks for four players. Five or six players need the 160-tile XP set, so the sheet offers up to six columns. With six players on US Letter at 28 point there is room for 11 games; on 11 x 17 inch paper there are 15.
Rummikub is played with tiles, but it is a rummy game, and the scoring is close to the way the large print rummy score sheet works with cards. For a domino night, the large print Mexican Train score sheet has 13 fixed rounds, and the large print canasta score sheet covers the partnership rummy game. The other sheets are listed under large print games, and what is large print explains the 18, 24 and 28 point sizes.
Can I copy this Rummikub score sheet?
Yes. Print as many as you need for home, a club or an activity room, and keep a few blank ones in the box with the tiles.
